About the Nursing Conference
For 29 years the Institute has hosted a conference specially tailored for those healthcare professionals who are so often at the very heart of the patient experience - nursing professionals. Principally supported through the generosity of the McGovern Foundation, this conference provides a venue for experienced caregivers and students alike to learn about the ways in which an awareness of spirituality is vital to person-center patient care.

Planned jointly by the nursing departments in all of the major Texas Medical Center hospitals, the proceedings feature nationally recognized speakers. Topics vary each year but always orbit around a common theme of recognition and awareness of the power of spirituality to enhance care. A highlight each year is the presentation of the Emma Josephine Loffelholz McMorris Spirituality in Nursing Award, which recognizes outstanding service by a member of the nursing staff from each of the participating nursing departments. This conference continues to grow, and with it, the impact and recognition of spirituality in nursing.
