MEDIA ALERT

The Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center (The Institute) is offering a Self-Care and Natural Healing Retreat with Qigong and Tai Chi on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This retreat will be held at the Institute at 8100 Greenbriar, Suite 300, Houston, Texas. General admission is $135 per participant and $95 with an ISH scholarship based on need. For more information and to register, please visit https://www.spiritualityandhealth.org/events/qigong-retreat-jan23.

Tai Chi is a practice that involves a series of slow, gentle movements and physical postures, a meditative state of mind, and controlled breathing. Similarly, Qigong is a mind-body-spirit practice that improves one's mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, and breathing techniques with self-massage, sound, and focused intent.

The Institute is pleased to offer this in-person retreat, especially in the month of January, when so many individuals are seeking to create a solid foundation for the rest of 2023. Participants will gain valuable tips and techniques that will help guide their mind-body connection to improve their quality of life and well-being.

Henderson Smith, Jr., will lead this immersive and refreshing retreat which is open to all skill levels. Smith is a certified Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi (IIQTC) senior trainer and a National Qualifications Authority (NQA) certified Qigong and Tai Chi teacher. Attendees will learn about the importance of mind, body, and energy connectivity and how Qigong and Tai Chi can help advance healing and contribute to their well-being for life. This training session will also provide these and other significant benefits:

  • Learn to access and activate the natural healing potential of mindful breathing and movement

  • Learn to better focus, manage attention, and master life experiences – including stress, trauma, pain, and people

  • Learn to mitigate the impact of stress and maximize the ability to heal

The Institute is thrilled to collaborate again with Living Well Therapies and senior instructor Henderson Smith to provide this restorative retreat. I can affirm that Henderson is a masterful teacher, making these ancient mind-body practices accessible, meaningful, and helpful. This retreat provides an opportunity to transform your relationship with your mind, body, and breath to empower yourself to live each moment with more intention and ease,” commented Cyrus Wirls, director of programs at the Institute.

This event is in addition to the Institute’s regular free support groups, which include bereavement groups, midweek meditations, and a weekly mind-body skills group for togetherness. Learn more at https://www.spiritualityandhealth.org/supportgroups
