THE BOOK

All of us will experience trauma. It comes early if we’ve been abused or neglected as children, or arrive in the world facing the challenges of poverty and discrimination. It may come later as we deal with the pain of broken relationships, overwhelming job stress, sexual harassment, the dangers of combat, or the threat of a serious illness. And eventually, all of us who live long enough will contend with the loss of loved ones, physical frailty, and our own impending death. Trauma is not apart from life, it is an integral part of it. Trauma disrupts our biology and psychology and our relationships with others. It is a crisis. And it also can be an opportunity. In The Transformation: Discovering Wholeness and Healing After Trauma (HarperOne; September 10, 2019) James S. Gordon, M.D., a world-recognized authority on post-traumatic stress and acclaimed mind-body medicine pioneer creates a healing partnership with us. In the pages of The Transformation, he offers us the first comprehensive, evidence-based program for reversing the biological and psychological damage trauma does and for discovering and growing through its challenges to become who we’re meant to be.
