Goddesses of Yoga
Goddess energy, or Shakti, was understood in classical India to be universal power-patterns occurring in the greater cosmos, in the natural world, and in our innate human nature. Recognizing and working skillfully with these patterns on multiple levels; energetically, physically and psychologically was believed to confer the dual goals of Spiritual fulfillment and worldly enjoyment. Much of today’s yoga ideology draws from these roots and would benefit from a richer contextual background to add depth and nuanced meaning.
Designed for those across all faiths and spiritual traditions, goddesses of Yoga is an seven-week yoga course drawing from Sally Kempton’s Awakening Shakti book on using the myth, mantra, imagery and meditations involving the traditional goddesses of yoga to enrich and empower one’s yogic practice and by extension, life.
This course will include; readings and discussions of the selected text (Awakening Shakti by Sally Kempton), and experientials- meditations, journaling exercises and of course, movement and asana led by ISH mind-body coach and certified 200hr YT Anyang Anyang.
