Event Overview:
Both coronavirus and the public response to the death of George Floyd have contributed to a renewed popular dialogue around health access and equity. COVID-19 has disproportionately affected African American communities, and the racial disparities present in healthcare become ever more visible as related conversations take place in deeper ways and in wider social contexts. While the state prescribes laws and policies that dictate the ways in which healthcare can be delivered, the Church plays a unique role in shaping conceptions about what is right and just, especially in times of crisis, and by what means we can be “Christ-like for another.”
What should we strive for and how we should strive for it? How should we understand when and how the Church should use its voice to address social issues of our time? What theological perspectives are helpful as we navigate the challenging waters of health access and equity? How can faith leaders respond at the congregational level to provide Christ-informed leadership in times such as these?
This event brings together theological and congregational voices to discuss these and other questions. Remarks from the speakers will be followed by questions from the audience.
