On May 4, 1955, the Institute of Religion was founded as the first nationally accredited hospital chaplaincy training program in the country. In the original charter, our founders wrote that the Institute would be a “working monument” to “the close affinity of religion and medicine, and the interrelation of the physical and the emotional and spiritual.”
Today, through our four Centers of Excellence, the Institute for Spirituality and Health remains true to this essential vision. Indeed, as we approach the 70th anniversary of our founding, we recognize that the Institute, like platinum, is both rare and durable.
Please join us on Thursday, May 1, at the Texas Medical Center’s spectacular new facility, Helix Park, as we celebrate this historic milestone. Sharing an inspiring evening filled with music, remarks by NYT best-selling author, Dr. Lisa Miller, and fellowship with friends from across our history, we will honor two of the Institute's most enduring and significant supporters, The Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation and Novo Nordisk Inc., which, like us, work tirelessly every day to better the human condition.
Together, we will carry forward a legacy seven decades in the making - one that recognizes that humans are spiritual beings and that health and healthcare are incomplete without tending to this reality.
Seven decades. Four Centers of Excellence.
One mission — enhancing well-being by integrating spirituality and health.
