DESCRIPTION

Ryan P. Brown, Ph.D., is a social psychologist whose work has spanned a wide variety of topics, including forgiveness, narcissism, stereotyping, ethical decision-making, and the social dynamics of honor. He will reflect upon the school shooting in Santa Fe, TX and those occurring across the country, with a focus on the ways that powerful cultural forces can drive these tragic events and what faith communities might do to counteract these cultural forces.

Ryan P. Brown, Ph.D., is a social psychologist whose work has spanned a wide variety of topics, including forgiveness, narcissism, stereotyping, ethical decision-making, and the social dynamics of honor. In addition to publishing over 50 peer-reviewed research studies and book chapters, his research on honor cultures culminated in a book, Honor Bound: How a Cultural Ideal Has Shaped the American Psyche (Oxford University Press, 2016). After spending almost 20 years as a professor of psychology at The University of Oklahoma, he is now the managing director for measurement at Rice University's Doerr Institute for New Leaders.
